Default Newbie help please

Okay so i just got this game. Looks amazing. Chosen necromancer as my first profession. Just cos i like the whole gothic/Controling life/death kinda get up. Not interested in PvP at the moment as i just wanna get used to the game. Whats a nice build to go for and what skills to take. Justa as a simple Necromancer. Was thinking Necromancer/ranger So i can stand back casting/shooting. ANY Input is welcome as i havent even got round to playing the game yet and probably wont do till the new year.

Thanks in advance.

I thought same thing as you, N/R, but not using bow, to use the pet. But later I relized that N/R-combo sucked. I've tested Alot of builds with that combo and dam it sucks!
I would Not recommand you to go R as second and make same misstake as me.
Sure, it works till short after Lions Arch but then it's too weak to be able to do anything... :S

First: ANY combination can be made to work in the PVE (Player vs Environment, or "regular" non-PVP) game. They all do. There so many skill combinations you can use that there's always a way to be effective.

Second: A general necromancer? Hmm. Blood + Curses is probably where you'll want to focus most of your skill points in. Very easy to play effectively. Death Magic mostly involves raising your minions and exploiting them somehow (at least until you're quite a long ways into the game, then there's some variation).

Third: Ranger.. hmm.. if all you want it for is a ranged attack, you don't need that. There are two "caster" weapon types, the Staff (two-handed) and the Wand (one-handed). Both have a little particle shot they throw. Range is not as long as some of the ranger bows, but they're plenty for staying out of melee, no ffear there. And their use is just based off an appropriate magic skill; normally a caster simply takes a staff/wand in one of their most-used attributes and leaves it at that.

Since posting this (and a LOT of reading up) i've decided i'm gonna make a Warrior monk. But use a hammer instead of the 'Hide behind my shield' paladin build. Going for pure damage with healing abilities. Thanks for the Tips anyway guys. ill no doubt be drawn back to the dark side at some point
